How Did We Get There?

Research
How did we start?
We first looked up the theories the organizations and corporations are currently adopting to base on, so we could better understand the collaboration framework. There are tons of collaboration platforms/tools in the market, but there’s a lack of academic-oriented and task-based tools, which can focus serve student population. In this position map, we visually displayed the competitors, we picked two variables: Business-orientated, Academic-orientated, and Task-based, Text-based, to identify our opportunity. We have had various software and tools to help people manage their work and job, but no specific tool is designed for student use only.
Interview Data Points
We interviewed students and professors across 10 different majors to gain a deep understanding of how they usually collaborate, what challenges they usually face. We mapped out the information from desk research and data points we got from surveys and interviews, reorganized and grouped them, we found there are three major components that exist in teamwork, they are Project Management, Team Management, and Team Members. Under each group, there are elements that involve team/project management efficiency.
We designed around our self-generated prompt: How might we help team members stay on the same page?
Teamwork Behavior Pattern
We first mapped out the phases that students would experience in their teamwork process, plus Design itself is an iteration process. From Setting a goal to Reflecting, they exist in a loop, that was the reason why we indicated like that (see below). And we listed out the factors that could cause students if they would be on the same page or not.
Design
How did we make it?
We're eager to brainstorm and innovate, as you never know what groundbreaking ideas may emerge! Building on our research insights and the prevailing collaborative trends, we aim to develop a mobile application that streamlines collaboration processes and reduces friction.
After landing on the format of the idea, we created the low-fi and conducted the first round of usability testing. From the test, we found one important result:
being able to work on individual projects is as important as working on school projects, as it can enhance the portfolio and practice skills.
